Born in Tehran in 1960, Mir Ali Hassanzadeh Khedmatkar arrived in Hamburg in 1986, intending to continue to the United States — and never left. He studied at HfbK Hamburg and the FH Hamburg and has maintained a studio in the city for four decades.
His practice centres on the intersection of rational systems and spiritual intuition: numbers as universal alphabet, spirals as encoded time, pictograms as the oldest form of cross-cultural communication. Reviewers have called him a Wanderer zwischen Orient und Okzident — a wanderer between Orient and Occident.
In 2026, he co-founded Galerie M|R with Regan King (RAKMAN), opening a physical gallery space in Hamburg's Maria-Louisen Strasse in Fall 2026.
